I’m a ceramist based in Los Angeles. My handbuilt and wheelthrown vessels are inspired by sea creatures, botanical life, and other figures from my childhood in Brazil. I create my work at a small, communal ceramics studio in Culver City. If you’re interested in any of the pieces on this website, feel free to contact me at j.yamakami [at] gmail.com. I would love to hear from you!

I’m also a graphic designer. Between 2015 and 2017, I worked for Eone, the startup behind the Bradley, an award-winning timepiece designed in collaboration with people who are blind. I’ve also worked with a range of publishers, including Tara Books, Enchanted Lion, Levine Querido, Simon & Schuster, Catapult, and Restless Books. My work has been featured by NPR, the New York Times, and AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers. I received an MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2013.

I was born and grew up in São Paulo, Brazil, and hold a BA in Journalism from the University of São Paulo.
